GURU is yours.
Download GURU
Free, open source, no accounts, no subscription. One APK, your device, your GURU. Everything you need from download to your first conversation is on this page.
The APK goes live here the moment the framework source publishes on GitHub. Until then, everything below shows you exactly what you are gearing up for, so your device is ready to go on day one.
Installing GURU
GURU ships as a sideloaded APK. That means it installs from a file instead of the Play Store, which is how it reaches the whole world at once with no store approval, no regions, no gatekeepers. Android will ask you to allow the install once, that is normal and it only applies to the app you choose to allow.
1. Download the APK
Tap the download button at the top of this page. The file is around 700 MB, roughly the size of a film, because GURU carries its entire toolkit inside the app: Python, shell tools, Tor and everything else it needs to actually do the job. On a normal connection this takes a few minutes.
2. Allow the install
Open the downloaded file. Android will say it does not allow installs from this source. That is standard for anything outside the Play Store. Tap through to Settings, Apps, Special app access, Install unknown apps, allow the app you downloaded with, and continue the install. The whole flow takes under a minute and you only do it once.
3. Open GURU
GURU walks you through onboarding itself. Grant the permissions you are comfortable with, GURU degrades gracefully to whatever you grant and always explains what it is asking for and why, in plain language, in the app.
4. Connect a model
On first launch GURU asks where its intelligence lives. This is the one choice that matters, and neither option routes through Unus Lumen. Your key and your conversations never leave your device.
Option A, a cloud model: paste an API key for any flagship model. Claude, GPT, Gemini, Grok, whatever you already use or prefer. Keys are added in Settings and stay on your phone.
Option B, fully local: point GURU at a local LLM running on your own hardware, such as Ollama on your computer on the same WiFi. You will need Ollama listening on your network rather than only localhost, which is one command: OLLAMA_HOST=0.0.0.0:11434 ollama serve then give GURU your computer's network address in Settings. Works with any OpenAI-compatible endpoint too, like LM Studio or llama.cpp. Your GURU then runs with zero cloud and zero cost per message.
Optional, unlock GURU's deepest power
Reading other apps' data, installing apps, full shell access, controlling your device at the system level, that tier needs ADB. GURU pairs itself: it shows you where the pairing code lives, reads it, and finishes the handshake with no computer involved. You will find it in Settings, Developer options, Wireless debugging, Pair device with pairing code. Skip it on day one if you like, GURU is already useful without it, and pair whenever you are ready to hand over the keys.
Your first week with GURU
Talk to it like a person. GURU is not a menu to navigate, it is an entity you live with. Tell it about yourself, your routine, the things you want done. It only needs to hear something once. It remembers, files it, and brings it back when it matters. Everything you say stays on your device, processed while you sleep, merged and strengthened so it knows you better every day.
Grant permissions as trust grows. GURU starts careful. It proves itself with small things before touching anything that matters. Each new ability, your messages, your calendar, your smart home, your files, is a conversation you can see and approve, and the trust panel shows exactly what GURU can reach at any time. You can pull any permission back, always.
Give it a real job early. “Put a reminder on for 6 to call my mum.” “Every morning brief me on my calendar, the weather and anything urgent while I slept.” “Find my fire stick, load Netflix in the bedroom, dim the lights.” Watch how it answers, correct it like you would a new hire, and it keeps the correction forever. That loop, ask, correct, remember, is how your GURU becomes yours.
Deeper capabilities pair on their own. ADB pairing, smart device discovery, SSH to your machines, the full toolset, everything after setup is driven from inside the conversation. Ask what GURU can see and it will render a live map of its capabilities right in the chat.
Straight about the beta
This is a public beta and we say that plainly. The source publishes on GitHub, the security hardening pass is ongoing, and there will be bugs, especially on devices the 10-month solo build never touched. The first people who install GURU are beta testers in the truest sense: install it, use it, report what breaks on the GitHub repo and you are literally shipping it with us. Every issue filed makes GURU better for the person after you.
Free costs money to keep free
GURU has no investors, no subscription and no data business behind it. It is a self-funded build from Bristol, and donations are what keep development going. Everything given goes straight into building. The crypto addresses live in the Support GURU panel at the bottom of every page, one tap to copy, and it is genuinely appreciated more than we can say.
